Dosage / Direction for Use
Lipway tab Management of primary hypercholesterolemia or mixed dyslipidemia Initially 160 mg daily. Management of elevated serum triglyceride conc Initially 54-160 mg daily. Adjust dose at intervals of 4-8 wk. Max: 160 mg daily. Lipway SR cap Adult 1 cap daily.
Administration
Should be taken with food.
Contraindications
Severe renal or hepatic impairment, existing gallbladder disease, photosensitivity. Concomitant w/ HMG CoA reductase inhibitors & other fibrates. Pregnancy & lactation. Childn.
Special Precautions
Discontinue treatment if ASAT & ALAT conc increase to over 3 times upper normal limit. Test liver function every 3 mth. Monitor prothrombin time in patients receiving oral anticoagulants. Muscle damage (including rhabdomyolysis) especially in patients w/ hypoalbuminemia. Patients w/ renal impairment (CrCl <50 mL/min). Elderly ≥65 yr.
Side Effects / Adverse Reactions
Muscle damage (diffuse myalgia, painful sensitivity, weakness) & exceptional cases of rhabdomyolysis. Digestive disorders of the dyspeptic type, elevation of transaminases, hepatitis, photosensitivity, Allergic skin reactions including rashes.
Interactions
Risk of additive undesirable muscular effects w/ other fibrates, HMG-CoA reductase inhibitors. Risk of hemorrhage w/ oral anticoagulants.
