Administration
Should be taken with food: May be given shortly before meals, can be given soon after meals when necessary.
Contraindications : Hypersensitivity to insulin lispro or any of the excipients of Humalog. Hypoglycemia.
Special Precautions
Transferring to another type or brand, changes in strength, species &/or method of manufacture of insulin. Uncorrected hypoglycemic or hyperglycemic reactions. Use of inadequate dosages or discontinuation of treatment. Presence of illness or emotional disturbances. Patients who undertake increased physical activity or change in the usual diet. Concomitant w/ pioglitazone especially in patients w/ risk factors for cardiac heart failure. Discontinue if any deterioration in cardiac symptoms occurs. May affect ability to drive or operate machinery. Renal & hepatic impairment. Pregnancy & lactation. Childn.

SC/continuous SC infusion pump/IV Individualized dosage.
Interactions
May increase insulin requirements w/ OCs, corticosteroids, thyroid replacement therapy, danazol, β2-stimulants (eg, ritodrine, salbutamol, terbutaline). May decrease insulin requirements w/ oral hypoglycemics, salicylates (eg, acetylsalicylic acid), sulpha antibiotics, certain antidepressants (MAOIs), certain ACE inhibitors (captopril & enalapril), angiotensin II receptor blockers, β-blockers, octreotide or alcohol.
