Description: Ischemic stroke & TIA 50-325 mg once daily. Suspected acute MI Initial dose: 160 mg. Maintenance dose: 160 mg/day continued for 30 days post-MI. Prevention of recurrent MI, unstable angina pectoris & chronic stable angina pectoris, primary & secondary prevention of CV events in patients w/ DM 75-325 mg once daily. CABG 325 mg daily starting 6 hr post-op. Continue therapy for 1 yr post-op. Percutaneous transluminal coronary angioplasty Initial dose: 325 mg given 2 hr pre-op. Maintenance dose: 160-325 mg daily. Carotid endarterectomy 80 mg once daily to 650 mg bid. Prevention of complications of pregnancy 80 mg daily from 13th-26th wk of gestation.
Administration: Should be taken with food: Take immediately after meals w/ a full glass of water unless patient is fluid-restricted. Swallow whole, do not chew/crush/bite the tab.
Contraindications: Asthma, rhinitis & nasal polyps. History of active PUD. Viral infections (w/ or w/o fever) in childn & adolescents due to risk of Reye’s syndrome.
Special Precautions: Heavy alcohol consumption. Hemophilia, vit K deficiency or liver disease. Do not use 1 wk prior to & during labor, delivery & any surgery. Severe renal & hepatic insufficiency. Pregnancy (3rd trimester) & lactation.
