Dosage / Direction for Use: Syr Adult & childn ≥12 yr 10 mL every 6 hr. Childn 7-12 yr 5 mL every 6 hr, 2-6 yr 2.5 mL every 6 hr. Drops Childn 1-2 yr 1 mL every 6 hr, 7-12 mth 0.75 mL every 6 hr, 4-6 mth 0.5 mL every 6 hr, 1-3 mth 0.25 mL every 6 hr.
Missed Dose: If the patient misses a dose, just take the next dose if still needed for the condition being treated, and the subsequent doses at the recommended time or schedule (i.e., every 6 hrs).
Do not double the dose.
Overdosage: Phenylephrine HCl: Increased blood pressure, headache, seizures, palpitation, paresthesia (sensation of tingling, pricking or numbness of the skin), vomiting, cerebral hemorrhage (bleeding from a ruptured blood vessel in the brain).
Chlorphenamine maleate: Extreme sleepiness or prolonged drowsiness, weakness, hallucination, convulsion, agitation, irritability, tachycardia (fast heart rate), coma.
If patient has taken more than the recommended dosage, consult a doctor.
Administration: May be taken with or without food.
Contraindications: If patient is allergic to any ingredient in the product.
If patient has high blood pressure or severe heart disease unless recommended by a doctor.
If patient is pregnancy or breastfeeding.
Special Precautions: May cause drowsiness; patients should observe caution while driving or performing other tasks requiring alertness.
Before taking this medication, tell the doctor if patient has: high blood pressure or any type of heart problems; glaucoma; thyroid problems; diabetes; an enlarged prostate, bladder problems or difficulty urinating.
If symptoms do not improve or new symptoms appear.
Use In Pregnancy & Lactation: Contraindicated during pregnancy & lactation.
Side Effects / Adverse Reactions: Phenylephrine HCl: Tremors, restlessness, anxiety, insomnia/sleeplessness, nervousness, dizziness, increased BP, palpitation, arrhythmia, weakness, resp distress & pallor. Chlorphenamine maleate: Sleepiness & drowsiness.
Interactions: Possibility for increased toxicity w/ sympathomimetic agents (eg, epinephrine) & general anesth (eg, halothane). May result in hypertensive crisis w/ amitriptyline, imipramine, sertraline, moclobemide. Phenylephrine HCl: May decrease effect w/ phenothiazines, phentolamine, propranolol.
Mechanism of Action: These medicines contain Phenylephrine HCl and Chlorphenamine maleate.
Phenylephrine HCl, a nasal decongestant, clears obstructed air passages and nasal sinuses due to congestion making breathing easier. It also reduces postnasal drip.
Chlorphenamine maleate, an anti-allergy, relieves symptoms of allergy such as runny nose, sneezing, and itchy, watery eyes.
