Dosage Calcium supplements are best taken with meal to ensure optimal absorption. Drink a full glass of water (8 ounces) with each dose, unless the patient is on kidney dialysis. Do not use more medicine or use it more often than the doctor prescribed. If the patient needs to take more than one dose each day, take each dose at evenly spaced times, unless the doctor has told otherwise. Do not crush, break, or chew the tablet unless the label says it is chewable. Missed Dose: If the patient missed a dose or forget to use the medicine, use it as the patient can. If it is almost time for the next dose, wait until then to use the medicine and skipped dose. Do not take double dose to compensate for a forgotten tablet. Administration Should be taken with food: Preferably taken w/ meals to ensure optimal absorption. Drink w/ a full glass of water (8 oz), unless on kidney dialysis. Do not take w/ high-fiber meal (eg, bran/whole grain/cereal/bread/fresh fruits). Contraindications This product is contraindicated in patients who are allergic (hypersensitive) to its active ingredient or other components of the product. It is also contraindicated in patients who have renal insufficiency. Special Precautions Tell the doctor if the patient has: kidney disease or have ever had kidney stones; stomach or digestion problems, such as on-going diarrhea, absorbing nutrients properly, or not having enough acid in the stomach. Do not exceed recommended daily dose. As with any drug, women who are pregnant or breast-feeding a baby should seek the advice of a doctor before using this product. If the patient is using a large amount of calcium or using it for a long time, the doctor might need to check the blood on a regular basis. Adverse Reactions The following may be associated with the use of Calcium/Vitamin D: abdominal distension, abdominal pain, constipation, eructation/burping, flatulence, nausea, vomiting, high level of calcium in blood (hypercalcaemia), excessive loss of calcium in urine (hypercalciuria) and kidney stone formation (nephrolithiasis). nteractions Phenytoin, tetracyclines (eg, doxycycline, minocycline), fluoroquinolones & levothyroxine.
